Lendl Simmons Announces International Retirement

Sports agency 124notout has been kept really busy in the last couple of days. Yesterday, they announced the international retirement of wicket-keeper batsman Denesh Ramdin and today, they’ve got another West Indian leading cricketer who has announced hanging up his boots after a successful international career.

We’re talking about former West Indies opening batsman Lendl Simmons who played 8 Tests, 68 ODIs and 68 T20Is for the national side, with amassing 3,700+ runs across these games across formats. He posted on his Instagram account to let everyone know about this decision and also mentioned that he wrote a letter to West Indies Cricket Board last Friday to announce them of the same.

Simmons played an important role in West Indies winning the 2016 T20 World Cup in India, especially with his knock in the semi final against India. He made his first international appearance with an ODI debut made against Pakistan in Faisalabad, back in 2006. His international career spanned 16 years and his last game for West Indies was a T20I against South Africa in October last year.

It’s been a long and illustrious career, which will now continue at the franchise level. Like Ramdin, Simmons is also 37 years old and his agency wrote a heartfelt note for his 110k followers on Instagram regarding his decision to retire. “Thank you king, but you are not out💎📈 We have seen many talented cricketers in our lifetime, but not many as naturally gifted with the bat as you, Lendl Simmons @simmo54. No practice required. You simply walk on the field and it is a party🔥🔥🔥,” they said.

“On Friday last, you announced your retirement from international cricket via an official letter to the West Indies cricket board. As your agency, we take this opportunity to salute you king. You are arguably the most under estimated international cricketer in the West Indies. To date, you hold the record for the most runs in CPL. If anything, you are more talented today than the day you played your first match for the West Indies,” they added.

Over the years, Simmons has represented franchises like Mumbai Indians in the IPL, Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League, Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL, and several others in the CPL at home too. He will now play as a free agent and we can probably see him more often than what we’ve seen from him in recent months.

“For that reason, we will accept your retirement announcement as a resignation and we will turn this into a “refirement”. Together we are about to embark on your second act. Ladies and gentlemen, Lendl Simmons is a free agent, and we are ready to do business with the franchise world,” was how the note signed off.
