Sandeep Lamichhane Hits Out Against Ali Khan On Twitter

While everyone’s got their eyes and ears on the happenings in the bigger cricketing nations, there’s an interesting war taking place between two leading cricketers from the so-called ‘associate nations’. We’re talking about Ali Khan from USA who made some comments against Nepal cricket fans, which didn’t go down too well with Nepal Twitter users, and the national side captain too.

The captain Sandeep Lamichhane was quick to reply to the conversation, showing unhappiness over the comments made, and that has sparked a whole lot of controversy on social media. We’ll tell you the whole story in this article, which began because of a tweet from leading sports and cricket journalist, Peter Della Penna.

Della Penna posted a screenshot of his DM from a Nepali cricket fan who called him a filthy rich journalist and also asked him why he hated Nepal so much as a country. Della Penna wanted to give a clarification on the same, which led to Ali Khan replying to the tweet and agreeing with him, but also adding further comments that infuriated the Nepal cricketing community.

Ali Khan said, “Nepali fans are the worst ever” and you wouldn’t have expected such a generalised tweet against fans of a particular country from him. Khan has played a lot of franchise cricket in several countries across the world including Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL. Having played in and received love from fans across the world, Khan was a bit unprofessional by posting such a tweet.

Lamichhane was quick to see this comment and decided to speak up on behalf of his country and fans across the country too. He said, “Never expected such a generalized and hateful comment from one of my cricket colleagues. The people of Nepal breathe cricket. It’s in their blood. And they are a critical part of cricket world map. Sports should only bring people together & not divide them. #JaiNepal🇳🇵”

The 21-year old Nepali captain did the right thing but it led to an uproar among Nepali fans and a lot of them were personally messaging and tweeting to Ali Khan and Peter Della Penna, stuff like threats and abuses. And while their sentiment was definitely hurt, sending across more hate only adds a bit of truth to what Khan said in the first place.

Some fans wrote back to Ali Khan saying that he shouldn’t talk about ans and crowds, because he hasn’t played in front of them till date. Other users also told him not to talk about Nepal when he himself isn’t Pakistani or American. Khan also decided to tag Lamichhane in one of the hate messages he received, where a user told him he deserves to remain in a hospital bed.

It’s getting a bit ugly among two top cricketers on Twitter and we hope they find a peaceful resolution, along with a sense of calm among fans from both nations. For similar cricket and other sports news from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
