We at Read Scoops often talk about records, match highlights, milestones and much more of the biggest T20 franchise leagues in the world. However here on this page, we’re going to talk about the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) which is one of the leading local and regional T20 leagues in India, which has now been around for a handful of years so far.
Among domestic T20 franchise leagues in India, only the ones in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been built well and have a little bit of a history to them. As for the TNPL, the tournament has been around since its inception with TNPL 2016 and apart from one year in 2020 (because of Covid-19 restrictions), they haven’t missed a single season yet.
So far, a total of six editions of the Tamil Nadu Premier League have been played and in the first five editions, we saw the final being played out at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai which is an international ground that has also grown to be famous for being the home ground of the Chennai Super Kings. In TNPL 2022 though, the final was played at Coimbatore (out of Chennai for the first time).

Today, we’re listing down all the Tamil Nadu Premier League winners till date (Updated as of 9th June 2023), before the start of the TNPL 2023 season. A total of eight franchise teams have played the tournament over the years and from them, the Chepauk Super Gillies has seen the most success, taking home four titles out of the six completed seasons so far. The Chepauk franchise is easily the most consistent team in the TNPL history not only because of the four titles to their name but also because they’ve made five finals, which no other team has come close to doing so far; they’ve only missed the TNPL 2018 final. The next best is between Tuti Patriots and Dindigul Dragons, both of whom have two TNPL finals appearances each on this full TNPL winners list.

In terms of individual performances in the TNPL T20 league over the years, Narayan Jagadeesan has been one of the best batsmen with over 1,200 runs in TNPL history so far. He’s not only the leading run scorer in the tournament but he also won the Man of the Match in the TNPL 2021 final, while also being the player of the tournament in TNPL 2016. No player has won the MOM award in two different TNPL finals yet.
In 2020, Tuti Patriots was renamed to Salem Spartans who have’t yet made a final after they did so in the first two seasons. This list was made before the TNPL 2023 season began and we’ll keep updating it once there are new updates to the TNPL winners list. In TNPL 2022, we saw the trophy being shared for the first time ever as there was persistent rain and we were only ONE OVER short of having a result.
