Rafael Nadal Wins Historic 14th French Open Title

How many times over the last decade or so have we got to watch brilliant sporting action because of this man?! We’re talking about none other than one of the greatest tennis players of all time – Rafael Nadal. For years, we’ve spoken about Djokovic and Federer being the greatest tennis players of all time but of late, Nadal has been proving time and time again why he’s second to no one right now

He’s aging and a couple of days ago even completed his 36th birthday, so not many would’ve expected him to reach the final of the French Open 2022. Seeded number #5 in the men’s draw this year, he not only got to the final but make easy work of it too, beating his opponent Casper Ruud from Norway to script history yet again, becoming the first player to win 14 French Open titles!

Rafael Nadal wins 14th Roland Garros title

We always knew he was the King of Clay but today, he’s ensured that that title won’t be touched by anyone ever again. By winning today, he not only brought up his 14th title here but also secured his 22nd career grand slam title which again is untouched in the men’s game, now two ahead of Federer and Djokovic each. He’s also gone on to become the oldest winner at the men’s Roland Garros tournament.

He wasn’t even the top seed coming into this tournament and we know he’s been having foot issues as well. In fact just before the French Open 2022 final against Ruud, Nadal mentioned that he’d rather lose the final but have a new foot instead. We clearly believe that this is one of the greatest achievements in sport, and not many sportsmen across the world have come close to the Spaniard’s achievements.

Along the way to winning this record and historic title in Paris, Nadal had quite a few tough games including his quarter final against Novak Djokovic who was the top seed but he managed to get past him as well. In the semi final, he was up against another top contender in Alexander Zverev who he also managed to get past after the latter withdrew with an injury.

Nadal even hinted at at retirement during this tournament so we hope to not hear an unfortunate announcement anytime soon but regardless, he’s been someone who has entertained us for years and a couple of decades in fact. In the final, he beat Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 in straight sets and that proves his dominance in this sport and in particular, on this clay surface.

He’s growing older but he only seems to be getting better with time. And it was a hard earned win because he became only the third person to beat three top 10 players to go on to win a Roland Garros title. He is probably indeed the greatest of all time and we salute him for yet another victory. For more updates on sports news from across the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com.
