Stefanos Tsitsipas shares celebration meaning

We’ve been watching that celebration for a few games now and Corretja finally got the meaning of it. “Mental strength” as the answer from Tsitsipas, and he also went on to add that he got that from Stan Wawrinka. Stan has done that a few times to celebrate wins and Tsitsipas seems to have liked this celebration in particular.

However, he claimed absolutely no credit for the celebration, immediate saying that he got it from ‘Stan the Man’ who was also a part of the 2023 French Open. The unseeded Wawrinka had a tough couple of games in Paris, beating Albert Ramos Vinolas in 5 sets in Round 1 and then losing to Thanasi Kokkinakis in Round 2, in another 5-set thriller.

“Stan the Man… I owe the copyright to a few players, let’s just say that,” he added when Corretja asked him to tell the crowd a bit more about the celebration. It was an easy 3-set win for Tsitsipas today and now he’s gone on to set up a quarter final encounter with the hottest running men’s player at the moment, Carlos Alcaraz, who is also the top seeded men’s player at RG 2023.

For those who follow Tsitsipas on social media, he has advocated the need of mental strength in the past as well, often doing podcasts on the topic too. The #5 seed is yet to win a grand slam title even though he’s made finals and is one of the best in the business, so he’ll be hoping to maintain his calm and composure against Alcaraz in the quarter final as well.
