What a fantastic tournament this has been for the defending champions in the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Right from the last season which took place earlier this year, Tamil Nadu had only lost one game which was a group stage game against Goa. Apart from that, they’ve been flawless and a few minutes ago, they beat Karnataka to win SMAT 2021!
It was the third consecutive final in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Tamil Nadu, beating Baroda in the final in the last edition and today, they beat Karnataka off the final ball of the game to record consecutive victories in this tournament. It was two years ago when Karnataka beat Tamil Nadu in another well fought game but today, the tables were reversed.

Tamil Nadu was more or less written out of today’s final but right towards the end, there were some lusty blows off the bat of Shahrukh Khan and we knew it wasn’t over until he’s out there. In the final over, they needed 16 runs and off the final ball, they needed 5 runs to win. Prateek Jain rain in to bowl and close the game but SRK smashed him over square leg for a massive six!
Tamil Nadu win Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 and they thoroughly deserved it, beating a well-oiled Karnataka team which has a few big names like Karun Nair, Manish Pandey and others. Earlier in the day, it was R Sai Kishore who did brilliantly with the ball with his 3/12 in 4 overs and then his 6(3)* with the bat helped at the end too!
