Aussie Spinner Stuart MacGill Kidnapped, Released

Between 1998 and 2008, leg-spinner Stuart MacGill played 44 Test matches for Australia and was often considered as one of the best spinners of all-time. He bagged 208 wickets in those games but led a career in the shadow of the legendary Shane Warne, and that’s what probably stopped him from becoming a legend of Australian cricket. Today, h’es in the news for something else though.

Aussie Spinner Stuart MacGill Kidnapped, Released

Now 50 years old, news reports have come in talking about MacGill being kidnapped at gunpoint and later released in Australia. This is said to have happened last month at Lower North Shore in Sydney. The police have confirmed that in a pre-dawn raid in the early hours of Wednesday, 5th May 2021, 4 men were arrested in connection for the kidnapping.

As per the same report, it is said that 3 armed men greeted MacGill at an intersection and bundled him into a vehicle. It is said that he was driven an hour out of the city, threatened and even assaulted with a firearm. After an ordeal lasting a couple of hours, MacGill was released and it’s believed the kidnappers were in search of a ransom.

After extensive investigations, the kidnappers were found this morning and four men aged 27, 29, 42 and 46 respectively were arrested for the crime against this former Aussie spinner. “The men were taken to local police stations where charges are expected to be laid,” said New South Wales Police in a statement regarding the same.
