Since the tournament’s inception in 2008, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has only got better by the year and each edition, we are mind-blown with some stunning individual as well as team efforts. On this page, we’re covering some of the better bowling performances to have been witnessed over the years in the IPL history, since there’s not enough importance given to bowlers in this batsman’s game of T20 cricket.
We already have an extensive list of all the batsmen to have scored a century in the history of the IPL and in this particular post, we’re going to present to you an extensive IPL 5-wicket hauls list. Five wickets aren’t as frequent as centuries because of the fact that bowlers are allowed only 4 overs in the T20 format, so each one on this list must surely have been a super special performance in the IPL.

Of the 15 franchises to have played in the IPL, 12 teams had their bowlers picking 5-fers over the years and the only not to do so are the now defunct Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala franchises. Talking about the youngest to achieve this milestone, we have Jaydev Unadkat who first got an IPL 5-fer when he was only 21 years old. As for those new to the tournament, the best figures on IPL debut were by West Indian Alzarri Joseph who picked 6/12 on debut at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad in IPL 2019. Anil Kumble is the oldest to have an IPL 5-fer, reaching that milestone at the age of 38 years!

Among the franchises, it’s Mumbai Indians who leads the count with the most number of these 5-wicket hauls (6 times) and that shows in the results as well, having lifted the title 5 times which makes them the most successful IPL franchise ever. In terms of the individual names who have got multiple entries into the IPL 5-wicket hauls list, we have Jaydev Unadkat, James Faulkner, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Jasprit Bumrah as the only four players to have multiple IPL 5-fers, with all of them getting two 5-fers each in this competition’s history.

Let’s look at the countries who are participating in this tournament. Since it’s an Indian league, the local country leads the count in terms of most IPL 5-fers, with 23 of the 35 5-fers. They’re followed by Australia with four 5-fers by their bowlers, 3 by West Indies, 2 each by England and Sri Lanka, and one by Pakistan.
