There hasn’t been a very well structured domestic cricket set-up in Afghanistan, but we’re hoping that that’s slowly changing over time. Recently in March 2024, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed the a new tournament which would kick off between 1-13 May 2024 called the Qosh Tepa National T20 Cup, taking place for the first time in the country.
The idea of the tournament was to give the Afghan players some good preparation and criteria for selection ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup which kicks off in June the same year. While there have been other T20 competitions in the country, this was the first edition of the Qosh Tepa T20 Cup and we’ve put down a complete winners list for this tournament below.
The five participating teams in the inaugural edition included regional Afghanistan sides – Mis Ainak Region, Band-e-Amir Region, Speen Ghar Region, Amo Region, and Boost Region. The captains announced were national side players including Ibrahim Zadran, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Samiullah Shinwari, Gulbadin Naib, and Najibullah Zadran respectively.

The first edition followed a double round robin format followed by the Qosh Tepa T20 final which will be contested by the top two teams on the points table. All games in the Qosh Tepa T20 first season were played in Afghanistan’s Kabul International Cricket Stadium and the level was cricket was surprisingly good. There were some pretty close games in the first season and while most of them were low scoring games, we saw a few 200+ totals being scored as well.
At the time of us writing this, it was Band-e-Amir Region and Mis Ainak Region who stood tall at the top of the points table, set to qualify to the Qosh Tepa T20 Cup 2024 final. However, we’ll wait for the final results and update in on this page. In the future, we’ll update all tournament winners in real-time, for each and every season that will take place over time.
