Popular Commentator Robin Jackman Passes Away

It’s been a horrible year and the bad news keeps pouring in, even as there are just a few days now until the end of the year. Earlier today, we heard of some more sad news as Indian-born English cricketer and commentator Robin Jackman passed away. He was 75 years old and passed away after a battle with throat cancer, of which he was diagnosed back in 2012.

Over time, Jackman had 2 successful operations to remove malignant tumours from his vocal cords. ICC announced the news in a statement, saying, “We are saddened to learn about the death of legendary commentator and former England bowler Robin Jackman, who has passed away aged 75. The thoughts of the cricketing world go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Unlike today’s early starting generation, Jackman’s international career began at the age of 36 years and he played 4 Tests and 15 ODIs, during which he picked 33 international wickets as well. Born in Shimla, his First Class career was one to beat with 1402 FC wickets in 399 matches, which spanned over 16 seasons in all.

Post retirement, Jackman served as a broadcaster in South Africa for several years and had grown to become a very popular voice in the cricketing industry. In the domestic circuit, he played for Surrey for several years and coincidentally, he passed away just a day after his Surrey teammate John Edrich breathed his last as well.
