We’ve had a million changes when it comes to players and management in the Indian cricket team. It wasn’t too long ago that Ravi Shastri was replaced by Rahul Dravid as Head Coach and more recently, Virat Kohli was sacked by the BCCI as captain in the ODI format, which means 34-year old Rohit Sharma will be leading India across both white ball formats going forward.
With the vice-captain spot up for grabs, we’ve heard reports of KL Rahul being given that position. Wicket-keeper and opening batsman, he’s been in the form of his life across formats in the IPL as well as in the T20 World Cup 2021. He’s someone who deserved this role and we fully support this decision, unlike the decision to make Rohit captain at such a late stage in his cricket career.
“KL (Rahul) will be the next vice-captain. It was an obvious choice in white-ball formats. He has done excellently over the last few years. He has 6-7 years left in him and can be groomed to become the next captain. With Rohit and Virat around besides Dravid, he will learn a lot,” said a top BCCI official to InsideSport.

Rahul was named vice-captain in the recent T20I series against New Zealand but it’s going to be made a permanent role now, in T20Is as well as ODIs. from the 2021 India tour of South Africa onwards. After the recent England tour, KL Rahul has become an all-format batsman and has cemented his place in the Indian side, so it’s a good decision while Rishabh Pant was also a contender for the role.
Rahul also shares a great rapport with senior players in the team including Kohli and Rohit, and he comes from the same state as the new head coach, Rahul Dravid (Karnataka). For more news from the Indian cricket team and other sporting news from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com…
