Hardik Pandya to Retire From Test Cricket

He’s been struggling in recent times, has Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Possibly the best all-round reserve India has produced in the last few decades, he’s super talented but has been plagued by controversies and injuries, currently nursing a chronic back injury. He was almost invisible in the recent T20 World Cup 2021 and even the IPL 2021 prior to that.

And while he’s known for his big hitting and acceleration in the back end of limited overs contests, Pandya has also played 11 Tests for India, with the management backing him over the years. He even has a Test century to his name but he last represented India in the longest format in August 2018, and reports suggest he’s going to announce his retirement from this format soon.

He hasn’t been bowling much across formats because of his injury and as an all-rounder, it’s difficult if you can’t practice one of your two trades. And to add to his troubles, Pandya always finds himself amidst some controversy or the other. He was recently name in a rape accusation and because of poor form over the last few months, his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians released him ahead of IPL 2022 too.

“He has been struggling with injuries for a while and although he hasn’t informed us officially, he is considering Test retirement. It will help him keep his focus on white-ball cricket. He was anyway not in our plans for Tests. It will be a great loss for sure but we have to prepare a backup. He is just 28 and it is going to be a big miss if he does take a final call on quitting Test cricket,” said a BCCI official.

Should Hardik Pandya retire from Tests?

We’ll be happy if he doesn’t do it and goes on to make a comeback, but concentrating on the shorter formats may also help his game and recovery to full fitness. For more updates on Team India and other cricket news from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
