Finally, it’s time for the 2021/22 Big Bash League to kick off after a long countdown to this season. Having won two consecutive BBL titles now, Sydney Sixers will be defending champions and will be looking at completing the treble, but there’s plenty of competition for them, as every year. They open their title defence in Match 1 of BBL 11 at their home ground in Sydney – SCG – and they begin as slight favourites.

They’re up against Melbourne Stars who have made the BBL finals three times in the past but are yet to go on to win a title. Ending as the second leading wicket-taker in BBL 2020, Ben Dwarshuis is coming off a good spell at the T20 Blast where he last played in June/July 2021. He’ll be vital to the team’s success, especially in the powerplay overs as he gets a lot of swing with the new ball. Jackson Bird is also a good powerplay bowler but we’d rather have Sean Abbott in our SIX vs STA fantasy team as he’s one of the leading bowlers in BBL history. Nathan Lyon misses out as he’s with the Ashes 2021/22 squad.

Englishmen really love the BBL and James Vince is one of them, finishing second to Alex Hales on top of the run scorers list last season. He’s super consistent in the top order and we’re picking him in our SIX vs STA Dream11 team. Moises Henriques is captain but we’re leaving him out because he’s been short of runs in recent months. Dan Christian hit a new gear last season and though he had a poor IPL 2021, he’ll do good again in home conditions.

Melbourne Stars

This team surely loves their Pakistan bowlers as after getting Dilbar Hussain and Haris Rauf from Lahore Qalandars in the PSL, they’ve signed spinner Syed Faridoun Mahmood as well and there’s a chance he may even play as Dilbar is out for a few weeks with an injury! The other available overseas players right now in their squad is England’s Joe Clarke who picks up the pace in the middle order and you can expect a quickfire 30-40 score from him.

With the bat, we’d ask you to keep an eye out on Hilton Cartwright who is one of the better batsmen in the country but has been under-performing in recent years.
