The Big Bash League (BBL) is one of the most happening T20 franchise leagues across the world and every year, they come out with yet another entertaining edition for all us watching from all across the globe. Today, we’re going to look at the top 10 bowlers in the history of this tournament over the years but before that, you can also take a look at our list of the BBL’s top 10 run scorers first.
This isn’t the IPL or PSL or BPL where spinners are super effective, but this is Australia where pacers extract a whole lot of speed and bounce from these conditions. However, it’s good to see a three spinners on our list of the top 10 BBL wicket-takers of all-time, which Read Scoops has accurately updated as of 11th December 2022, before the start of the BBL 12 season.
5) Ben Dwarshuis
Not in the top 5 BBL wicket-takers list at the start of BBL 11, he had a good season and managed to climb up this list, becoming the fifth bowler to 100+ BBL career wickets. As of now, his tally stands at 102 wickets in 83 games in the Big Bash League, being one of the few to have played their entire career for one BBL franchise. He’s represented Sydney Sixers between 2014-2022.
4) Ben Laughlin
The only player on this top 10 BBL most wickets list, it’s safe to say that Ben Laughlin has been a legend of the Big Bash League, being the first to 100+ scalps in this competition and maintaining the top spot for many years, until he slipped to number #4 before the start of BBL 12. He’s the only retired player on the list and when his career ended, he had 111 wickets in 96 Big Bash games!
3) Kane Richardson
While being a regular part of the national side, Kane Richardson has managed to bag wickets in the BBL T20 over the years too. He maintained his number #3 spot on this list from BBL 11 to BBL 12, and has 117 wickets in 90 games and while he has good stats, he’s one of only two players on this list to have never bagged a BBL 5-fer.

2) Andrew Tye
Rising to popularity across the world because of his knuckle ball and other variations, Andre Tye only joined the Big Bash League in 2014 but he’s right behind the leader of the BBL most wickets list. He’s got 118 wickets in 85 games and holds the joint record with Kane Richardson for the most number of 4-fers in this tournament (5 each).
1) Sean Abbott
Quite a consistent performer in the Big Bash League, Sean Abbott has played for the Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers franchises from 2011-2022 and apart from being the top wicket-taker in the league, he’s started making important contributions with the bat as well in recent years. He leads the list with 125 wickets in 94 games, though he has the highest economy rate among these bowlers on the list – 8.47.

Only two bowlers on this list have managed to pick up 5-ers on two separate occasions and those are Peter Siddle and Dan Christian. In terms of games played, Christian has played the most number of BBL matches while Rashid Khan has played the least (68 BBL games). Rashid has proved his dominance here in Australia too, also making him the only non-Australian on our BBL most wickets list.
Jason Behrendorff, Fawad Ahmed, and Daniel Sams narrowly missed making the cut on this list but there are still years to go for some of these bowlers and we expect names to go up and down this list as the BBL editions keep taking place.
