The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) introduced a new franchise cricket league called the Nepal Premier League (NPL), initiated in Nov 2024. For a new tournament, it’s great to see that 8 franchise teams participating in the first edition of the league itself, with all Nepal national side players captaining these respective teams. The same followed for NPL 2025!
For sponsorship reasons, the tournament is called Siddhartha Bank NPL 2025 for now, but it’s possible this name might change in years to come, if sponsors change. There was an NPL 2025 auction which meant each team had to finalise 16 players per squad, with quite a few international cricketers signed up to the competition as well.
Nepal Premier League winners list
Since it’s a new competition, we don’t have much of a history for the NPL T20. The first edition began on 30th Nov 2024 and Janakpur Bolts kicked off the tournament with a victory over Biratnagar Kings. With that, the Bolts went down into history as the winner of the first game of this NPL T20 tournament powered by NCell, also going on to win the NPL 2024 season eventually.
Before the tournament, there was the Nepal T20 League which was scrapped because of some corruption charges. In that single season in 2022, it was Lumbini All Stars who won and you can check out that winners list here. Before that, other competitions like Dhangadhi Premier League, Everest Premier League, and Pokhara Premier League also ended up failing. Now, we hope for a brighter future for NPL T20.

The teams in NPL 2025 include Chitwan Rhinos, Biratnagar Kings, Sudurpaschim Royals, Janakpur Bolts, Kathmandu Gurkhas, Lumbini Lions, Karnali Yaks, and Pokhara Avengers. Each of them signed Nepali icon players in the NPL 2024 auction, with the highest salary being Rs 15 Lakh in Nepali Rupee (NPR).
