What’s happening in Afghanistan?
To put it very simply, Taliban has taken over the country and there’s an entire ruckus and chaos being created because of the same. Taliban, also known as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, is a Deobandi Islamist movement and military organization in Afghanistan. They’ve been waging wars within the country and of late, it’s been getting worse by the day.
After weeks of battles taking place and a lot of violence and open killing taking place, the country has fallen to Taliban and they’ve even gone on to rechristen the country to Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. USA has been helping the country with negotiations since months but they’ve withdrawn from the land recently and with them, they allowed safe passage of President Ashraf Ghani.
The US-backed President was elected in 2014 and then re-elected in 2019 but he has now resigned and fled the country in order to avoid violence and blood-shed. USA withdrawing from the region has led to complete chaos and videos have been emerging of citizens running to catch planes out of the country.

On Sunday, Taliban encircled the country’s capital, Kabul, and with that, Ghani and Vice-President Amrullah Saleh decided it better to flee to Tajikistan. This happened as representatives from the Afghanistan government, Taliban and USA sat and discussed transfer of powers in Doha, Qatar. Happy with the discussions, Taliban allowed the President and Vice President to flee the country.
As per what we’ve heard, Taliban has given their ‘word’ to USA that no harm would be done to these government officials and American nationals in the country, and that they would allow their safe passage back home. Currently, locals are fleeing to countries like Iran, Tajikistan and Turkey, and we’ve even heard that ministers are looking at India for shelter in this situation.
A regime of terror has returned to Afghanistan after a collapse of the government and you can see thousands of nationals scurrying to the Kabul airport, waiting to get out of the country. Videos have gone viral as people are also seen on the runway of airports, desperately trying to get a seat on one of these planes out of the country. As per sources, Taliban mentioned that the ‘War is Over’ after the top officials resigned, fled the country and handed over control. However, we have reason to believe that everyone who aided and supported America and the American government may be on their radar, which makes it an unsafe place for many locals.
