When Day 5 of the 2nd Test between England and India kicked off today, we knew there was not going to be friendly banter. All three results were possible and emotions were running high between the 22 players on the field. A lot of banter has been happening among the players in this 2nd Test and Jasprit Bumrah was involved in yet another one today on the final day.
After getting into discussions with James Anderson when Bumrah was bowling on Day 3, it was time for the latter to come out with the bat on Day 5 after India lost Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma early in the first session. In between overs, Bumrah was seen being involved in a heated discussion with some of the English players, especially wicket-keeper Jos Buttler.
The argument went on for quite some time and we even saw the umpires stepping in to calm down the situation. Mohammed Shami was seen getting involved and was nicely gestured by the umpires to be silent and not open his mouth. Emotions were running high and that was clear, as a little bit of the conversation was even picked up on the stump mics.

“I am not the one who was complaining to bowl slow,” is what we believe we picked up on the stump microphone, which could be a reference to James Anderson crying about the short pitched deliveries he had to face earlier in the test match. Bumrah was seen running behind Mark Wood who said something to JB as well, while walking back to his mark.
However, this Kohli-led Indian team has no shortage of aggression and Bumrah was seen giving back everything that was being dished out to him. In fact, the first ball he faced after the argument was a fitting reply. He smashed the shortish delivery on the offside, with the cut shot picking up a boundary and causing a massive round of applause from the crowd. See that reply here:
