Alize Cornet beats Swiatek in Wimbledon 2022

Cornet is now 32 years old and not many would’ve even expected her to make the third round at The Championships Wimbledon. However, she has been having a spirited run in recent months and she’s got the hunger to win, which was very evident as she took on Swiatek today as well; remember, Cornet is unseeded in this tournament and has been surprising herself with her gameplay right now.

Coming to this game, she broke Swiatek early in the first set and after a lot of grappling and wrestling, she managed to hold serve to go on to shock the top seed and complete the first set 6-4. However, Swiatek is a champ and everyone would’ve expected her to bounce back. Today, she wasn’t able to as she played a super charged up Alize Cornet.

In her 63rd grand slam appearance, Cornet has been around for years but we haven’t seen her playing better than this too many times before. The Frenchwoman was delighted as she progressed to Round 4 and will play among the final 16 players in Wimbledon 2022, registering this as one of the best wins of her career for sure.

Swiatek has enjoyed a 37-match winning streak prior to this game and you could’ve bet your house on her winning Wimbledon 2022. However, the hot favourite’s winning streak was halted and she will have to come back next year for another crack at the title. Six tournament titles in a row before she endured this loss today!

This was Cornet’s 62nd consecutive grand slam appearance and her first time into the fourth round of Wimbledon as well. For more updates from Wimbledon 2022 and the world of tennis and other sports, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com.
