Between 17-30 Jan 2022, we’re going to see yet another edition of the Australian Open, which is one of four major Grand Slam events on the tennis calendar that takes place once a year. This is always the first slam of the year and as the new year comes upon us, tennis fans are all set for the Australian Open 2022 which will see the best tennis players in the world take on each other at Australia’s Melbourne Park!
The tournament is going to be its 54th edition in the open era and 110th edition overall, with Serbia’s Novak Djokovic being the most successful here, getting a total of 9 Grand Slam single’s titles here. He’s won it three times in a row from Australian Open 2019 till 2021 and he’ll be gunning for a fourth consecutive title in the 2022 AUS Open men’s tournament.
In the women’s tournament, Naomi Osaka is here to defend her title but she’s been out of action since a while dealing with mental health and personal issues, and she’ll face tough competition from her peers. However, let’s specifically talk about the men’s Australian Open 2022 in this article, and who are some of the contenders to be the Australian Open 2022 winner.
Apart from Djokovic, there’s the other main title contender in Russia’s Daniil Medvedev who made the final of the 2021 Australian Open and over the last four grand slams, he’s the only player to have defeated Djokovic, winning the 2021 US Open, which also became his maiden grand slam title. He’ll be looking to keep at it and beat Djokovic another time, and end the dominance he’s held in this sport of late.

However, he’s not going to be the only competition for Djokovic as we have another couple of youngsters who have been knocking on the doors since a while now. We’re talking about Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, both of whom have made grand slam finals but are yet to get their hands on any silverware. Zverev will be happy after beating Medvedev in the final of the 2021 ATP World Tour Finals.

Now we also have a few others who will wreak havoc on the courts. After winning his maiden grand slam at 2020 US Open, Dominic Thiem had a poor 2021 and he missed the last couple of majors, so he’s coming here super fresh and ready to spar once again. On the other hand is the young giant killer from Italy in Jannik Sinner who will surprise us if he doesn’t make at least the quarter finals here.
Rafael Nadal is also in the mix but having won only one title here in 20+ appearances over the last couple of decades, we don’t think he’s a serious threat while Roger Federer is out of the tournament altogether. We’re interested to see how Andy Murray fights in the 2022 Australian Open. For those wanting to bet on tennis betting markets for the men’s Australian Open 2022 winner, read details here.
