Carlos Alcaraz Makes 2022 Madrid Open Final

Only 19 years old and Spanish tennis professional Carlos Alcaraz Garfia is making a major name for myself all across the world. And he’s doing particularly well close to him right now in the 2022 Madrid Open, which is an ATP 1000 event also known as Mutua Madrid Open for sponsorship reasons.

A few days ago, he beat countryman and one of the greatest players of the modern era, Rafael Nadal, in the tournament’s quarter final. Considering he has the most grand slams on clay and is known as the ‘King of Clay’ because of his expertise on this surface, we were happy to see how the youngster Garfia went on to run past Nadal to book a spot in the semi final.

In the semi final however, it only got worse and tougher for the 19-year old as he had to face Novak Djokovic, who is the number #1 in the world and was also the #1 seed in this Madrid Open 2022. We saw some thrilling tennis action between these two players and after Djokovic won the first set 7-6 after a tie-breaker, we saw Garfia making a comeback in the second set.

Garfia went on to win 7-5 in the second set and was halfway through completing a comeback. In the final set, the two went neck to neck right from start to end and landed themselves in yet another tie-break. Though Garfia had the first mini-break and taking a 2-0 lead, Djokovic made a comeback and stuff was level once again!

Eventually however, Garfia went on to make another mini-break and was serving for the game, leading 6-4 in the tie-breaking. He needed the seventh point to win the final set and he got there easily, winning the game, set and match, and beating another major legend of the game. And with that, he set himself a berth in the 2022 Madrid Open final!

The other semi final will take place later tonight as the number #4 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on number #2 seed Alexander Zverev and the winner of that game will take on Garfia in the mega and grand finale in Madrid. Both these games are sure to be thrillers but given the rhythm he’s in right now, we think Garfia has the potential to go and take this all the way.

Alexander Zverev has already won this tournament twice in the past and as for Garfia, this is his chance to secure a maiden Madrid Open title at this young age. In fact, this is just his first final at this event and he’ll be over the moon if he goes on to win the same.
