WATCH: Shane Warne Predicts and Gets McCullum’s Wicket

Yesterday, the world was left shocked as we lost one of the biggest cricketing legends of our time  in Australia’s Shane Warne. In fact, he wasn’t ever taken to be just an Australian cricketer but he impacted world cricket as a whole. And across the globe, people and institutes have been making tributes to the spin king Warnie.

We at Read Scoops were also big fans and we’ve gone on to throwback to one day at the Big Bash League T20 competition in Australia. Here,  Warne was mic’d up and chatting with the on-air commentators as he was running in to bowl. Playing for the Melbourne Stars at the time, they batted first and scored 177/7 and were defending this total against Brisbane Heat when this incident took place.

Just before running in to bowl, Warne was telling the commentators how he plans on getting the prized scalp of Brendon McCullum, who was one of the most destructive T20 batsmen in the world at the time. It was the tenth over of the game when Warnie predicted that Baz McCullum may want to sweep one, and he’ll be trying to slide the ball in there, faster.

And right enough, the prediction worked. Not only did he predict that he’d make McCullum play the sweep shot, but he also managed to slide one in quicker, and bowl the batsman around his legs. We often called him one of the best spin bowlers of all time, and this incident only proved that to the world once again, this time towards the twilight of his cricketing career.

Even the on-air commentators were left astonished, as Warnie has done plenty of times in the past. “That’s why he’s the King” came the call from the commentary box. The ball was delivered so well that he not only bowled around his legs, but the ball went on to strike the off-stump, and McCullum could only look back in disbelief.

This incident took place in Big Bash League 2010/11 and Warne ended this game with figures of 1/22 in his quota of 4 overs. His bowling was good enough to lead the Stars to victory, winning that game by 8 runs. This was just one of the many times Warne left fans bewildered and in awe of his cricketing talent and genius.
