Bundesliga Teams Sent Into 7 Days Quarantine

We’ve been craving for some sports. Whether it’s football or cricket or basketball or even if it’s greyhound racing, we are dying to see some action happening across the world. And the first major sports league set to resume is Germany’s Bundesliga, with their first and second division competitions set to begin soon.

The world can’t be paused forever and the German Football League (DFL) made a decision last week to go on with their top two divisions starting Saturday, 16th May 2020. It’s not going to be easy resuming in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, but the decision has been made and all precautions are being taken to ensure it’s a smooth process.

Bundesliga Teams Sent Into 7 Days Quarantine

The biggest precaution is that of players from every team in the leagues to undergo a 7-day quarantine period before the games begin. The quarantine period for these players have already begun prior to the season kicking off this weekend. With only a handful of staff and other officials, the games will be played in empty stadiums to help control the spread of the virus.

Clubs like Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and VfL Wolfsburg have chosen hotels in their cities to cut travel times during the quarantine period while other clubs are using hotels in their stadiums itself. Some have even chosen hotels far away in the countryside that are more isolated, but each one if following the lockdown well so far.

“We always expected that the remainder of this season will not be trouble-free. These tests and results are also a sign of our transparency,” said Borussia Dortmund Chief Executive, Hans-Joachim Watzke. Plans for the restart took a big hit as second division team Dynamo Dresden saw two players testing positive recently, but all is as per schedule as of now.
