CWG 2022: Jake Jarman Wins Men’s All-Around

We at Read Scoops tuned in to the 2022 Commonwealth Games coverage this afternoon to support Yogeshwar Singh in the men’s all-around gymnastics tournament. And while he wasn’t really able to compete with some of the other athletes in the event, we saw some fabulous gymnasts from around the world in action.

One person who impressed everyone including the home crowds, the judges, the commentators, and the millions watching, was UK’s Jake Jarman. The 21-year old was not a pre-event favourite to win here but it was his day, bringing his A-game into all of the 6 apparatus that were a part of the men’s all-around game.

He was leading towards the end and had only the horizontal bar event left. Even a decent performance would’ve let him keep the top spot and of course the gold medal. But he did better than just decent as he got a 13.40 overall score including execution and difficult in the high bar event, ensuring a top spot for himself.

The only other main competitor for him was his teammate James Hill from UK as well. And while Hall was also great on the day, he was beginning to suffer from an ankle or foot injury which was preventing him from even walking properly, let alone perform his routine. However, he fought it out and the crowd was backing him till the end.

The execution was good from Hall but his dismount wasn’t the best as he fell short and had to settle for second place and another Commonwealth Games silver medal. As for Jarman, the winner accumulated a total of 83.450 points across the six events and that was good enough for him to take home the gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

With hall securing the silver medal, England went 1 and 2 in the men’s all-around gymnastics final at Birmingham 2022 and it wasn’t the first but the third time they’ve done it at the Commonwealth Games. It was good to see Jarman and Hall together with the England flag after they finished with the top spots. Cyprus’ Marius Georgiou claimed the bronze medal.

As for our Indian contender Yogeshwar, he failed to finish in the top ten in this event. For similar stories from CWG 2022 and other sports updates from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
