IPL 2022: Virat Kohli Bows to Dinesh Karthik

While the Royal Challengers Bangalore usually play in red and black in the Indian premier League (IPL), they ditch the standard jersey once every season to play in green, to raise awareness about a greener and more sustainable environment across the world. Today, 8th May 2022, they did the same in Match 54 of the tournament, against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sunrisers have always had the edge over RCB in recent encounters and today, we thought it would be the same way as former captain Virat Kohli was dismissed on the first ball of the game, reducing RCB to 0/1 and recording his third golden duck of the season. Kohli walked back to the dressing room slowly, doing  facepalm on the way back as well.

But Kohli has always been all about his team and not about personal milestones. He’s always been the first to clap for his teammates, give them a standing ovation, and sometimes even do other antics like he did today for their designated finisher, Dinesh Karthik. RCB had slowed down in the later overs but DK walked in and started hitting it right from the word go.

While Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell struggled to turn up the pace, it felt like Dinesh Karthik was batting on a totally different pitch at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He ended up smashing 30(8)* which was an outstanding strike rate of 375. He particularly went after Fazalhaq Farooqui who bowled the 20th over of the innings.

He smashed 25 runs off the final over which included three consecutive sixes off Farooqui followed by a boundary to finish the over, taking RCB to a massive total of 192/3. Faf ended as the top scorer but it was all DK towards the end, as anything below that would’ve been nothing but par at a good batting wicket like Wankhede.

Eventually, his knock turned out to be more than enough for RCB as their bowlers were on top of their game today, bowling out SRH for 125 within 20 overs itself. Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga ended with a maiden IPL 5-fer, picking up 5/18 and reducing his opponents to absolutely nothing, winning the Man of the Match award as RCB recorded a whopping 67-run victory.

When DK returned to the dressing room, Virat Kohli was all smiles and he even bowed down to DK for his wonderful cameo at the end of this innings. Today was a Super Sunday at IPL 2022 and after that RCB vs SRH game, the action moved straight to CSK vs DC at the DY Patil Stadium for the second match of the double header.
