Marsh One Day Cup Top Run Scorers List

Today known as the Marsh One Day Cup, this is Australia’s premier List A tournament which has been taking place for over five decades now. In a battle between the top regional sides in the country, the country has gone through a number of name and format changes, but it hasn’t wavered away from being a one day (List A) competition right since inception with the Australia One Day Cup 1969/70.

Over the years, we’ve seen a number of teams participate and a few have dominated proceedings here (see our Marsh Cup winners list), but there have been a lot of consistent individual performers as well. Mostly, these have been those who didn’t have the longest international careers, as they wouldn’t have always got a window to play in this List A cup if they were on national duties. 5) Callum Ferguson

One of the most underrated batsmen in the Australian domestic circuit, he was given multiple chances at the highest level but Callum Ferguson could never bring his domestic magic when playing in yellow for Australia. In the Australian one day domestic tournament, he amassed 4,085 runs in 114 games during his career between 2003-2021. He represented South Australia through all of these years and had 20 fifties to go with 11 centuries and a top score of 169!

4) Darren Lehmann

Another person with an 18-year career in this domestic tournament, Darren Lehmann had the ‘finisher tag’ and thus holds the highest batting average from anyone on this list – 51.29. Having enjoyed a long international career, he also has the least number of games from batsmen on this list, scoring 4,155 runs in 98 games in this Aussie ODD tournament. Playing for South Australia and Victoria during his time here, he has the most number of fifties (31) in this tournament, along with 7 centuries and a top score of 142*.

3) Jimmy Maher

Here’s one of only two players to have been awarded Man of the Match in two separate finals in the Australia domestic one day cup. Jimmy Maher has scored 4,589 runs in 112 games during his career between 1993-2008. He played for Queensland right through his domestic List A career and his stats here include 25 fifties and 10 centuries, including a top score of 187 against Western Australia; no one on this list had a higher individual best than this, and he’s the only one to have never got a single duck in his List A career too.

2) Michael Klinger

If you’re a fan of Australian cricket, you will have heard this name because Michael Klinger seemed to score runs for fun in the Australian List A tournament. He hit as many as 5,124 runs in 129 games and is the only one here to have played for three different teams – South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia. Klinger has 30 fifties which is only behind Lehmann’s tally of 31 and he also had 12 career centuries here, with his personal best being 143.

1) Brad Hodge

Everyone loves Brad Hodge, especially cricket fans from Victoria as he spent his full List A career between 1993-2011 playing for them. His record is unmatched and he may stay at the top for the next few years as well, since no current cricketer is even close to his tally here. Hodge has 5,597 runs in 139 games and apart from playing more games than anyone in this tournament, he has the most centuries too (20) to go with 25 fifties and a career best score of 144.

Greg Blewett, Justin Langer, Michael Bevan, and Simon Katich narrowly miss out on this top 10 Australia One Day Cup top run scorers list, and the highest run scorer from among current cricketers is Usman Khawaja, who has 2,944 runs in 62 games in this competition.
