T20 WC 2022 – Twitter Reacts As India Loses to England

Time after time and year after year, India does brilliantly in bilateral series and tournaments, but they lose in the big ICC events. It’s been 9 years since they lifted an ICC trophy, 11 years since they won a World Cup, and 15 years since that inaugural T20 World Cup was lifted by the Men in Blue. And once again, the team has failed to bring home the silverware.

England won the toss and bowled first today in the second semi final of the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup in Adelaide and right from the start, it was one way traffic. They got early wickets and didn’t allow India to cut loose at any point of time. Yes, fifties from Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya meant there was some hope as India set a target of 169 in this important semi final clash.

Once England came out to bat though, it seemed like a different pitch altogether. India failed to make any chances with the ball, and the English batsmen punished every poor delivery to the fence. 60+ in the powerplay without the loss of any wicket and half the game had slipped out of India’s hands by then itself. And to make matters worse, the openers only kept going.

Once again, KL Rahul showed that he’s never a man to be trusted in the big games. Each time India has had a crunch game, he’s been dismissed early and the same happened today, when everyone expected him to perform as he came into this game on the back of two consecutive fifties. But no, it was another failure, just like his captain and opening partner Rohit Sharma today as well.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wreaked have in the country and among cricket fans in India when they ensured the captaincy was taken away from Virat Kohli and given to Rohit Sharma aka ‘Hitman’, so the latter could bring us trophies, which Kohli couldn’t. As for Rohit, he didn’t lead by example either with bat or on the field.  His poor captaincy made fans miss the ‘MS Dhoni touch’.

“England win and they’ve given India a real hammering here,” said Ravi Shastri on air as Buttler finished the game off with a six, completing a whopping victory as they won by 10 wickets, with as many as 4 overs to spare. Fans could question the bowling choices, the playing eleven, the commitment of players on the field, and much more. But for now, it’s the end of another T20 World Cup campaign for India:

It’s Pakistan vs England now in the 2022 T20 World Cup final and it’s the third such final for Pakistan, who will be looking to get their second T20 WC trophy. England has also won one in the past and whoever wins, they will become only the second nation after West Indies to win two T20 World Cup trophies.
