WATCH: Stuart Broad 600th Wicket Moment

We say Ashes Cricket is the best battle in the sport but it’s primarily because of the cricketers participating in this competition from England and Australia. Each time, they bring out their best and nothing less than that, and some of them have gone down in history books as players that the sport won’t be forgetting anytime soon. One such player is England’s Stuart Broad!

Now 37 years old, he’s still breaking records as he went on to achieve a historic milestone today, on Day 1 of the 4th Test of Ashes 2023. Australia was batting first and when play resumed in the final session, Broad picked up the wicket of Travis Head to get Australia’s 5th of the innings, and personally, to get to the 600th wicket of his Test career. Truly historic moment for him!

He had already picked up the wicket of Usman Khawaja in the first session and then, he picked up another one shortly after the Tea break. It was an important one too, as Australia was starting to up the tempo, and Head scored briskly too, in his innings of 48(65). But Broad, as he’s done so many times in this series already, was there to provide his team a breakthrough when most needed.

He became the second English bowler to reach this landmark of 600 Test wickets after James Anderson, while the fifth overall, with the three others to get there being Mutthiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne, and Anil Kumble. He’s only the second pacer to get to this milestone and that goes to say a lot about the levels of fitness he and Anderson have maintained over the years to play the longest form of the game.

Talking about the dismissal, it was a short ball to Head and the latter went for an aggressive pull shot, only to get a top edge that ran down to the fine leg fielder. Joe Root was waiting down there and he completed a sprint and a fine catch to help his teammate get to this landmark. Watch the Stuart Broad 600th wicket video here:
