To grow the domestic cricket setup in Pakistan, quite a few regional competitions popped up, across all formats of the game. One of the latest ones to emerge in the Sindh region was the Sindh Premier League (SPL20) which was thought of in 2022 and launched in 2023, with the first edition kicking off in the first month of 2024, with six participating regional teams.
A provincial government minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah announced the idea of the league in June 2022 and the first tournament was the SPL20 2024 tournament, kicked off on 25th January 2024. It’s still a fledgling league but cricket fans across the world are interested in knowing more about the Sindh Premier League history, which we’ll cover on this page.
While the original plan was to have 7 teams in the league, the SPL20 Season 1 kicked off with six participating teams including Karachi Ghazis, Larkana Challengers, Hyderabad Bahadurs, Benazirabad Lals, Mirpurkhaas Tigers, and Sukkur Patriots. Each of them have icon players including former and current Pakistan senior men’s team international cricketers.

Arif Malik is the president of the league while former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi was announced as the brand ambassador of the competition. It was Hyderabad Bahadurs vs Karachi Ghazis in the first game of the league’s history and it turned out to be a pretty easy victory for Hyderabad. They scored 189/6 in their quota of 20 overs and ended up restricting their opponents to 158/10, winning by 31 runs in a match which will go down in the competition’s history.
We’re expecting a whole lot of fireworks from the first edition of the Sindh Premier League, both with bat as well as the ball.
