WATCH: Kevin Sinclair Backflip Celebration For Maiden Test Wicket

Making your Test debut for your country, is one of the most special days in any cricketer’s career. Yesterday, West Indies all-rounder Kevin Sinclair made his Test debut against Australia at The Gabba, and he has been having a great time in the field so far. This includes helping Windies recover after a collapse and scoring his maiden Test fifty, on debut itself, displaying a fine array of shots.

Sinclair scored his maiden Test fifty on debut as well, but he was later called upon to perform with the ball too. Here, he was pummelled across the ground, giving away 0/48 in just 6.2 overs bowled, before he bagged his maiden Test wicket as well. Bowling to Usman Khawaja, he got the outside edge which was pocketed at 1st slip, and out came the famous Kevin Sinclair celebration.

Kevin Sinclair celebration goes viral

After a poor start to his bowling spell, he finally hit the right spot and the set batsman in Khawaja was finally dismissed. The commentators on air were waiting for him to get a breakthrough and when he finally did, they rated his celebration a ten out of ten! Here’s some comments from Ian Bishop after seeing this fabulous celebration, after Sinclair got his maiden test scalp.

7 Cricket was the first to tweet a video of the celebration, which was then reposted by hundreds of other Twitter (X) accounts in a matter of a few minutes. “Kevin Sinclair takes his first Test wicket and marks the occasion with his signature celebration! How good 🙌 #AUSvWI” is how they captioned the video on their official handle.

West Indies stood no chance of winning a Test in Australia but Sinclair’s rearguard action meant the visitors got to a 1st innings total of 300+. Then, the new ball bowlers got early wickets and at the time of us writing this, Australia were 262/8, with just 49 runs of the lead still to be covered up. Even Stevens in the match so far, still on Day 2!

The 24-year old off-break bowler has represented St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League, where we’ve seen these celebrations before. He’s also played 7 ODIs and 6 T20Is for Windies, but it’s the first time we’ve seen the Kevin Sinclair backflip in white, playing the longest format of the game. Hopefully, there will be more to come as well.
