WATCH: Ryan Burl Hits 34-Run Over Against Bangladesh

The 2022 Bangladesh tour of Zimbabwe is underway and while we’ve always seen the Asian team dominate this opponent, it was a very memorable series for the home team. After winning the first game, they hit a small road-bump in the second game and came into today’s 3rd T20 international with the chance to secure a rare series win against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh have always held the edge in recent years but Zimbabwe had a point to prove and prove they did indeed. They batted first in the final T20 as well, scoring 156/8 after a very slow start indeed. At 67/6 in 13 overs, no one expected them to get to the total they put up and that kind of recovery speaks a lot about the character of a team…

Ryan Burl hits 34 runs in T20 over

While a couple of players made small contributions, all the credit would go to all-rounder Ryan Burl who bettered his knock from the second game to score a fifty in this final game of the series. His belligerent knock of 54(28) included 2 fours and 6 sixes, and five of those sixes came in a single over itself.

He decided to tear into left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed in particular, who started well in this innings by giving away only 6 runs in his first over. He came back to bowl the 15th over of the innings and little did he know that Burl was going to take him to the cleaners. He hit the ball to all corners and smashed 34 runs in that over against Ahmed.

The first ball of the over was a SIX over long on followed by the second ball going for SIX over backward square leg. The third ball barely got over the ropes for SIX at the deep mid-wicket boundary while the fourth ball made it four in a row as he hit another SIX over deep mid-wicket. After a conference between Mosaddek, Ahmed and Mahmudullah, the fifth ball was hit for FOUR, one bounce over long off.

He would’ve been disappointed that the fifth ball couldn’t get over the line as he’d go into the history books with names like Kieron Pollard, Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh, and others to have hit 6 sixes in an hour in professional cricket. The sixth and final ball of the over also went for SIX over wide long-off as he completed the over for 34 runs. See here:

He was eventually dismissed in the 19th over and that probably made a difference of at least 10+ runs to the final total Zimbabwe put up. However, it turned out to be enough as they defended this total and won the series 2-1. Burl was obviously awarded the Man of the Match while Sikandar Raza won the player of the series trophy.
