If you’ve been keep up to date with new technological advancements, we’re sure you would’ve heard of cryptocurrencies and the latest trend, NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens). People all around the world are launching NFTs and using the concept to raise funds for movies, projects, art, and much more. Celebrities in particular have taken the NFT route to let fans own pieces of their careers.

In the sporting industry too, a lot of the greats have launched their own NFTs including footballing legend Lionel Messi. And now, another top Indian cricketer in Rohit Sharma has decided to enter the metaverse through NFTs.

In association with Faze Technologies, the ‘Hitman’ decided to launch his NFTs and made the announcement on Friday, 24th December 2021. He will launch it on digital collectible website, FanCraze, and the collection will see many memorable moments from his career like the 2019 ICC World Cup Golden Bat award, the ball used for his first IPL hat-trick in IPL 2009 for Deccan Chargers, and much more.

We are very excited to partner with Rohit Sharma, a pure cricketing genius, to build the new paradigm of engagement between the athlete and the fan,” said Anshum Bhambri, FanCraze CEO, about Rohit launching his NFT on his platform.

You should know that FanCraze has already inked a 3-year deal with the International Cricket Council (ICC) wherein they have rights to the cricketing body’s catalogue of video and audio clips, which date back all the way back to 1975. They’ve already been creating thousands of NFTs from these clips and videos, which can be bought by fans and traded in secondary markets.

It was only recently that Rohit’s cricketing career took a massive turn as he was appointed T20 captain of India and a few weeks later, he also took over as ODI captain from Virat Kohli, while also being appointed as the vice-captain in Tests. He’s currently not in the Test squad for the 2021 India tour of South Africa, and you can see his tweet on launching his NFTs here:

People spend in millions of dollars to own these digital moments and we expect Hitman to also collect plenty of bucks from these NFTs. As per a report, it’s estimated that around $17+ billion will be spent worldwide on purchasing NFTs across various marketplaces online. Apart from cricketers, actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Sunny Leone, Salman Khan, and others also launched their own NFTs.
