WATCH: Rizwan Runs Two Without Bat, Loses One Run

It’s been a great T20I series in the 2023-24 Pakistan tour of New Zealand so far. In all three games, New Zealand batted first and scored 200+ and Pakistan failed to get there in the first couple of games, albeit great efforts in both cases. The third New Zealand vs Pakistan T20I at University Oval in Dunedin was a similar story, where New Zealand scored 224/7, thanks to a Finn Allen century.

And when you’re chasing big scores, there’s no other couple you’d want out there than Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. And regardless of the result, there’s plenty of entertainment and antics when these two bat together. One of the moments we saw was Rizwan dropping his bat and running shuttle runs without this main piece of equipment for a batter.

Mohammad Rizwan running without bat goes viral

This moment occurred in the 6th over bowled by Matt Henry, when Rizwan tucked it towards the empty mid-wicket region and wanted to run two runs. However, he lost balance and ended up dropping his bat, making him complete two runs as shuttle runs, without the bat. Remember, it was unintentionally dropped or else he’d be subject to some penalties as well.

He managed to get back for the second run, thanks to a dive into the crease without the bat, arms out first. It was a great effort, lauded by the on-air commentators and everyone else watching. However, the slow motion replays showed that Rizwan was a couple of inches short while taking the first run, unable to get his glove over the popping crease.

The Mohammad Rizwan short run went viral, not because he was penalised the run but because he put in such a great effort but still had to get only one run for it. Eventually, he made his ground but was dismissed soon later, scoring 24(20) in the final T20I, chasing a rather improbable win. Here’s another reaction on Twitter (X) to this moment:

Rizwan has always been a massive entertainer and he proved that today once again, even though he didn’t get remotely as close to how many runs he would’ve wanted to score at Dunedin. He even survived a caught behind appeal later as his glove was not on the bat / handle, leading to further conversation and controversy around him. Classic Mohammad Rizwan!
