Did Babar Azam Bat Alone in the 3rd NZ T20I?

We’ve witnessed three T20Is of NZ vs PAK and in all three of them, the hosts New Zealand batted first and put on scores of 200+. In all three cases, Pakistan failed to complete the chase albeit brilliant performances from Babar Azam. Batting at number three, he pummelled the bowlers and scored three consecutive fifties in this series.

However, there was one particular moment in the 3rd T20I in Dunedin that caught our attention more than the others. After a few wickets went down, the scorecard showed Babar Azam batting by himself, in two different entries on the television scorecard graphic. But did he really bat by himself? Read below to find out what happened…

Did Babar Azam Bat Alone in the 3rd NZ T20I?

Babar Azam and Azam Khan batting together

Batting at number #5 for Pakistan in this game was legendary Pakistani cricketer Moin Khan’s son, Azam Khan. He shares the same first name as Babar Azam’s last name, which led to the scorecard showing Babar as one entry and Azam as the other entry, in a very rare but also coincidental occurrence in today’s game.

This scorecard coincidence didn’t last too long because before we knew it, Azam Khan was dismissed as he tried to catch up with the rising required run rate and the pressure that came along with it. He was dismissed for only 10(7) during the chase, off the bowling of Matt Henry, caught well by Glenn Phillips on the boundary.

These kind of moments are rare in cricket but it does look appealing to our eyes when they do happen. However, it won’t be the last time we’ll get to see these two batting together in this T20I series because it’s a 5-match series and two games are still left. New Zealand have won 3-0 but Pakistan still has a chance to salvage some pride from the last couple of games.
