WATCH: Ollie Robinson Bowls Spin in Ashes 2021/22

We’re still in the 2nd Test of the 2021/22 Ashes series down under and there hasn’t been a single day where we haven’t found something super exciting so far. Whether it’s Jhye Richardson bowling with torn shoes on his comeback Test match or it’s a lightning bolt that comes to disturb play in Adelaide or Marnus Labuschagne up to his usual antics, even talking to himself while batting, we’ve seen it all.

Early on Day 4 of the 2nd Test at the Adelaide Oval, we had another rare occurrence to talk about as one of England’s leading pacers walked up to bowl and decided to bowl some off-spin instead. Why?! We can only speculate. One reason could be because the pacers were tired on the fourth day of the Test and decided to take it easy for a couple of overs.

Ollie Robinson bowls off-spin

Another reason could be the over-rate which has been a problem for England right through this series so far, even being docked 5 penalty points in the last game. The third reasons could be that there were just a couple of overs left to the Dinner Break and England may have wanted to try their luck at something new. Either way, it was Ollie Robinson who was the lab rat this time around…

Social media went berserk because it’s not very often that you see such a tall bloke running up a few steps and delivering spin; especially if you’ve seen the guy bowl deadly seamers for so many years. Robinson coolly walked up to the crease, chose his side, kept his sunglasses on and bowled an over of off-spin. And we wouldn’t be wrong to say he landed them really well, as if he’s been practising it all along!

He bowled the offies like he was a professional spinner and for someone tuning in for the first time to see him bowl, you really wouldn’t know there was something wrong about it. Either way, the crowd had their fun and when Robinson resumed in the second session of the day, he was back to bowling what he’s known for – PACE!

While England was having a little bit of fun in the field with such bowling changes, including Joe Root bowling himself a lot and Dawid Malan bowling leg-breaks to get his first Test wicket as well, they were actually way behind in the Test match. At the time of writing this article, Australia were 195/7 with a lead of 433 runs, clearly in the driver’s seat to go 2-0 up in the series.

Labuschagne has been the hero of the Test so far with a century in the 1st innings followed by a fifty in the 2nd innings, while Starc did well with the ball and will be crucial in the 2nd innings as well. For similar cricketing news from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
