The Ashes always brings about the best of cricket because the players know that they’re playing for so much more than they usually do. There’s so much on the line in this series, which is the oldest cricketing rivalry, going on since 100+ years now. And Ashes 2021/22 has been no different so far, with some dramatic scenes happening today, on Day 2 of the 2nd Test at the Adelaide Oval.
Of course, Australia are clear favourites and that was on display as they put up 473/9 today on Day 2 before declaring and trying to have a crack at England with the pink ball, being used for the first time in this Ashes 2021/22 series. Marnus Labuschagne led the charge for the Aussies while there were fifties from David Warner, Steve Smith, and Alex Carey as well.
And eventually, the idea of having the last few overs to bowl at the visitors was a good one as they ended up picking two wickets, and those were the important ones of both openers, Rory Burns followed by Haseeb Hameed. One wicket fell to Mitchell Starc while debutant Michael Neser picked a maiden test wicket as well. But it was lightning and weather conditions that had the last laugh on the day.

After seeing a huge lightning bolt go past the sky, the umpires were quick to act and call off play for the time being, which eventually led to Stumps on Day 2 with the visitors at 17/2. And as replays were flashed across television sets across the world, we saw how clearly defined the lightning bolt was, which ended up going viral on social media.

Lightning and thunder was the only thing missing from the series so far and it’s also the only thing that can save England from losing and going down 0-2 in this Ashes 2021/22 series here down under.
