WATCH: Keegan Petersen Stunning Catch Against India

The 2021/22 India tour of South Africa has been a pretty entertaining one for cricket fans across the world. We’ve seen centuries, 5-wicket hauls, good catches, banter on the field, and much more. More importantly, the results have been good too, with India winning the 1st Test and South Africa putting up a resolute batting performance to win the 2nd Test and level the series.

Now, the 3rd Test is underway at Newlands, Cape Town and at the start of Day 3, it was more of less even stevens. However, the hosts struck twice in the first half an hour to sit in the driver’s seat and the two wickets to fall were those of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. We’re writing this to let you know in particular about the Pujara wicket, where South Africa’s Keegan Petersen pulled off the catch of the series…

Keegan Petersen catch in 3rd Test vs India

What a fabulous sight it was to see in real-time. Captain Dean Elgar set a slightly unorthodox field inclusive of a leg-slip and the 28-year old Petersen was positioned there. He was already being spoken about as the find of the series for the hosts after a couple of really pleasing-to-the-eyes fifties. And here, he pulled off a blinder, defying gravity to pick up a one-handed catch while the ball was technically behind him.

Marco Jansen was the bowler and he’s also been one of the positives of the series for the hosts, and he pitched one in short to Pujara, which the latter tried to fend off but all he managed was to get a feather on it which was headed in between the keeper and the leg-slip. However, Petersen was lightning quick to react as he threw his body and one outstretched arm was enough to pick out the catch.

After his fifty in the 3rd Test, the entire cricketing world was mighty impressed with Petersen and AB de Villiers had this to say about him on Twitter – “The long and the short is Keegan Petersen CAN play! I’m very excited with the composure, skill and technique I’ve seen against one of the best attacks in the world.”

And to make things better for the hosts, it was only the second ball of the day and such a flying efforts raised the spirits of the South African players. It upped the morale in the fielders as well as the bowler who quite honestly, missed the line of his short ball and wouldn’t have been expecting that wicket whatsoever. See the catch below:

At the time of writing this, India was 80/4 in the 2nd innings with a lead of 93 runs and the game is still in the balance, likely to come to an end early on Day 4 of the Test. For more updates on this series and other cricketing news from across the world in general, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
