IPL 2022: Mumbai Indians Full Squad

Every year, the Indian Premier League (IPL) only gets bigger and better for all those playing and watching and participating in any way possible. This year too, we’re expecting fireworks on the field as we move into the fifteenth edition of the tournament, while this is also the first edition where there will be ten participating teams in a single IPL season.

And if we’re talking about IPL franchises, we definitely can’t skip out a team like Mumbai Indians as they’re the most successful team in the history of the competition, having won it 5 times till date. There were super aggressive at the IPL 2022 Auction too, buying some big names at record-breaking prices, which they hope will bring them their sixth title in IPL 2022.

Mumbai Indians before IPL 2022 Auction

Prior to the IPL 2022 mega auction, teams were asked to retain as many as only 4 players, which is a combination of Indian and international (if you need both). Mumbai Indians retained their captain Rohit Sharma, while also retaining the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Kieron Pollard.

Historically, Mumbai Indians had never spent more than ₹10 Crore on a single player in so many seasons and years at the IPL Auction until this one. They couldn’t retain Ishan Kishan but they ensured they could pay whatever needed for him, bagging him for ₹15.25 Crore, which also turned out to be the biggest contract in the IPL 2022 auction.

They strengthened their team across all departments as they bought the likes of Dewald Brevis with the bat, after he recently became the highest run scorer in a single edition of an U-19 Cricket World Cup. Apart from that, they saved up some money for Day 2 of the auction and splurged on Singapore batter Tim David too, paying upwards of ₹8 Crore for him as well.

And to cover up for not being able to retain Trent Boult, they needed a replacement left-arm pacer. And they decided not to get one but get four instead, signing up all of Jofra Archer, Daniel Sams, Tymal Mills, and Arjun Tendulkar. The junior Tendulkar will be a part of their reserves while Archer will not be available for IPL 2022 at all, but the likes of Mills and Sams have been in great rhythm in recent months.

Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav (retained), Ishan Kishan, Dewald Brevis, Murugan Ashwin, Basil Thampi, Jaydev Unadkat, Mayank Markande, Sanjay Yadav, Ramandeep Singh, Aryan Juyal, Tilak Varma, Hrithik Shokeen, Rahul Buddhi, Arshad Khan, Tymal Mills, Jofra Archer, Fabian Allen, Daniel Sams, Anmolpreet Singh, Tim David, Riley Meredith, Arjun Tendulkar.

Having Riley Meredith only further strengthens the bowling attack and one could probably think that if they have a weaker side, it would be their batting. For more similar updates on IPL 2022 teams and their squads for this season, make sure you stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
