IPL 2022 – Liam Livingstone Smashes 117m Six

The Indian Premier League (IPL) brings us all sorts of entertainment on a daily basis. Sometimes it’s the low scoring thrillers, sometimes the best flying catches, sometimes centuries and sometimes the best bowling spells. Today in the IPL 2022 season, we saw a personal batting record and achievement that you may not get to see too often in professional cricket.

This record was set by Punjab Kings batsman Liam Livingstone who is currently one of the most sought after limited overs batsmen in the world, because of his massive six hitting ability. His career stats show more sixes than fours and he’s paying off his IPL 2022 Auction price tag in his debut IPL season, today hitting the biggest six of IPL 2022.

IPL 2022 - Liam Livingstone Smashes 117m Six

Liam Livingstone hits 117 meter six

Today, Punjab was set to chase a small target of just 144 against Gujarat Titans and it was an easy chance for them to get back to winning ways. After Shikhar Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa set a good foundation in the chase, Livingstone came out there to finish it and honestly, he wanted to end this game really early.

When he came out, the team needed just about 6 runs per over but he wasn’t letting it go down to the wire. He wanted to finish it off early and help the team’s Net Run Rate, especially since they’re out of the top four on the IPL 2022 points table. And in the process of doing so, he hit Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami for a whopping 117 meter six!

27 runs were needed of the last 5 overs and while it was going to be a cakewalk, we weren’t expecting the game to be over within the next 6 balls itself. He hit the first ball of the 16th over from Shami for a monstrous six over deep square leg to record the biggest six of the tournament. And when he did so, all three commentators in unison shouted, “OH MY WORD”!

At the time, it was Kevin Pietersen along with Murali Kartik and Graeme Smith in the commentary box and all three were shocked with that hit, as were the millions of others watching the game live. He then went on to hit two more consecutive sixes, followed by a boundary on the fourth ball, a double on the fifth ball and another boundary on the last ball, wrapping up the game and getting Punjab their fifth win!

Livingstone ended with 30(10)* and in the post-match interview, he said that he was just happy to go out and swing his bat as he didn’t even think he’d get to bat in today’s game. His 117m six became the biggest of the tournament, beating youngster Dewald Brevis who hit a 112m maximum earlier this season.

Pietersen mentioned a few times on air that this was the biggest six he’s ever seen in his life, and that’s quite something from the English cricket legend himself.
