IPL 2022 – Jos Buttler Gets Third Century of the Season!

You can talk about a good season and a great season and then a legendary season. Take it to the best superlative in order to understand what kind of a season Jos Buttler is having in the Indian Premier League (IPL) right now. Playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022, he already had two centuries when less than half of the season was over, until he decided to add to his tally today.

Playing IPL 2022 Match 34 today against Delhi Capitals, Buttler decided to steam past the rest of the competition in the Orange Cap race today as he brought up his third century of the IPL 2022 season. And it also turned out to be the fastest one of the lot, getting to his century in just the 16th over of the innings, allowing him plenty of time to go on and get a big one.

IPL 2022 – third ton for Jos Buttler

Prior to this, he had scores of 100 and 103 and here, he looked set for a big one. After having struggled for the first few overs in the powerplay, he got a few out of the screws which built his confidence in this innings. What helped was that his opening partner Devdutt Padikkal also supported him with free flowing runs at the other end.

The duo put up the first century partnership of IPL 2022 and then also went on to record the highest ever opening partnership in the history of Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. While most of the top IPL batsmen don’t have three IPL centuries, Buttler has managed to do the unthinkable as he has gone on to bring up his third century in a single IPL season.

Padikkal finally fell in the 16th over of the innings, getting 54(35) and falling when Buttler was still batting on 99*. They put up 155 runs for the first wicket partnership but we new that Buttler had given himself the license to go big for the last few overs of this innings. While batting on 99*, Buttler had eight fours and eight sixes which meant more than 80% of his runs came from boundaries at this stage!

This very special player got there with an easy drive down to long on, which saw him coming down for the second run, bringing up the fastest of his centuries in the IPL 2022 season. He got there on his 57th delivery with more than four overs still left for him to inflict more damage on the Capitals. This also became his fourth career IPL century, and you can see the list of all IPL centuries ever scored here.

He particularly enjoyed going after Kuldeep Yadav in this game on 22nd April 2022, after being put in to bat by the Capitals. He smashed Kuldeep each time he came out to bowl which meant that the chinaman bowler ended up with figures of 0/40 in his first 3 overs, not even being allowed to complete his quota on the day!

We thought he’d have the chance to go on and get a massive score but his 2nd-wicket partner and captain Sanju Samson wanted to display some skills of his own. Eventually, he ended with 116(65) which included 9 fours and 9 sixes and it was the highest individual score of the IPL 2022 season by this time of the tournament! Rajasthan was propelled to another massive score because of his knock – 222/2!

This and much more is expected to take place as we’re still not even halfway through the IPL 2022 season. So for similar cricket and IPL 2022 news and updates from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
