5:00pm: We’re done with four sets at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. And Ishan Kishan has headlined Day 1 of the event with his record-breaking 15.25 Crore contract, going back to Mumbai Indians. However, almost everyone in the capped wicket-keepers set got a massive contract, except for a couple who went unsold. Everyone will take a 10-minute TEA break now.

4:15pm: We move on to the fourth set of the afternoon after Charu Sharma waited on for a verrrrryyyyyy long time before passing on Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi. The new category is capped wicket-keeper, beginning with #32 Matthew Wade. See below:

As shown below, the IPL Twitter handle confirmed that Edmeades is okay after getting Postural Hypotension, and that Charu Sharma will resume the proceedings after the lunch break. The auction will commence from the bidding of Sri Lanka’s Hasaranga which went incomplete in the capped all-rounders category. See below:

2:10pm: There’s a slight interruption as a very unfortunate event happened at the IPL 2022 Auction as the auctioneer Hugh Edmeades took a fall in between the auction of Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. 12:05pm: And we’re LIVE with the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Fasten your seatbelts! Gautam Gambhir is spotted at the Lucknow table while Akash Ambani is a familiar face at the table for Mumbai Indians. As for Kolkata Knight Riders, we’re seeing Aryan Khan and Suhana Khan in attendance, the latter making her IPL Auction debut.

11:45am: 15 minutes to go. Most teams are already seated in their respective slots. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was also seen walking in. Pre-auction talks say that the all-rounders will be most important and there’s also going to be a lot of vying for captaincy options, with up to three teams looking actively for a captain. Yesterday, Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta confirmed she will miss the event.

12th Feb, 11am: The two new teams (Lucknow and Gujarat) have been given front row seats as they’ve never been a part of the IPL Auction in the past, and they need to soak in everything that they can. The auctioneer is Hugh Edmeades and we’re a few minutes away from kicking off the biggest ever IPL Auction yet.

  • Just to remind you, the current IPL auction bid stands at 16.25 Crore – Chris Morris.
  • Last IPL Mega Auction took place in 2018 and since then, only CSK and MI have won titles.
  • Mumbai Indians has never spent more than 10 Crore on any player in an IPL Auction.
  • It’s the first time that we’ll see 10 teams playing in a single IPL season.

IPL 2022 Auction - LIVE Updates

12th Feb 2022, 9am: The IPL Governing Council has confirmed that on the first day of the IPL 2022 Auction (12th Feb), 161 of the list of 600 players will go under the hammer. This includes the ‘Most Wanted’ set of 10 players from the marquee players list. The event will take place at the ITC Gardenia Hotel in Bengaluru, and begins at 11am. The event will be LIVE on the Star Sports Network.

Some of the big names to go under the hammer includes the likes of Dwayne Bravo, Yuzvendra Chahal, Krunal Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Tim David, and many more. Big spots up for grabs are mostly for the Lucknow and Ahmedabad franchises for IPL 2022; Lucknow pulled in Gautam Gambhir as mentor and Andy Flower as Head Coach as well in recent weeks.

3rd Feb 2022: A total of 590 players were announced to go under the hammer in the IPL 2022 Auction which is now 10 days away. From them, there were players from multiple countries but we were happy to see 7 players from associate nations also set to go under the hammer, and you can see who they are here.

24th Jan 2022: Like every time there’s an IPL auction, there are multiple price brackets under which players get listed. There are several base price lists and this time, there are 49 players listed in the highest base price category of Rs.2 Crore. These include Indian as well as overseas players, and you can see that full list here.

IPL 2022 Player Draft

23rd Jan 2022: The two new franchises in Ahmedabad and Lucknow are yet to disclose their franchise names but they’ve added three players each to their roster ahead of the IPL 2022 Auction, so that they have a few players before the auction. 11th Jan 2022: It was Vivo IPL that signed a multi-year deal between 2018-2022 but because of increasing tensions between China and India, they pulled out of the tournament and now, they’ve got Tata Group as the new title sponsor of IPL, so get used to hearing the name Tata IPL 2022, and post this season there will be a new request for proposal.

IPL 2022 Auction Date And Time

24th Dec 2021: Reports ave come in that the IPL 2022 auction date and time have been announced and will take place in Bengaluru between 12-13 February 2022. Of course, it will have to be a 2-day event because the IPL 2022 auction is a mega auction with a huge player pool going under the hammer, and two new teams joining the fray and the bidding wars as well.

21st Dec 2021: There’s a whole lot of controversy over the ownership of the Ahmedabad franchise owned by CVC Capital Partners, because of their links to betting businesses, which goes completely against the BCCI rules for team owners.
