Everyone has their eyes on the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) which is the next big T20 franchise league coming up and let’s face it, it’s the biggest and best in terms of popularity and commercialisation as well. But before the IPL 2022 season kicks off, there’s a major event coming up which is the IPL 2022 Auction and it’s big because it’s another IPL mega auction, where everyone goes under the hammer.
There are 10 teams now participating in IPL 2022 (for the first time in IPL history) and only 33 players were retained by all teams combined, so we have a total of 590 players to be auction at the IPL 2022 mega auction which is scheduled to take place on 12-13 Feb 2022 in Bengaluru. Today, we’ll talk about the highest base price players, those who have to be purchased at a minimum price of Rs.2 Crore!
IPL 2022 Auction – Rs.2 Crore base price
Over the years, quite a few really good cricketers have not got bids at an IPL auction only because the team owners felt that their base prices were too high. Thus, many players are now being super careful when listing themselves for the IPL auction, because players with base prices of Rs.1 Crore and Rs.50 Lakh tend to have more bidders for them.
For the IPL 2022 Auction, we have a total of 49 players listed in the top bracket for base price, which includes 17 Indian players and as many as 32 overseas players. And history has shown that the international pros tend to get the biggest bids, with the likes of Chris Morris (recently retired), Ben Stokes (not playing IPL 2022) and others getting the biggest pay packages in IPL history.

We think some of the players are overly priced in this base price range and while most teams have a lot of purse left to use, we think quite a few from these 49 will end up being unsold in the 2022 IPL mega auction.
