Akash Deep Replaces Washington Sundar For IPL 2021

We’re around 20 days away from the start resumption of the 2021 Indian Premier League season which had to be cancelled mid-way earlier this year due to an outbreak of coronavirus. However, a lot of changes are coming in including a different venue. And now, quite a few players have dropped out because of injuries and other personal and calendar issues.

Akash Deep Replaces Washington Sundar For IPL 2021

One such player who has been ruled out from the rest of IPL 2021 is Washington Sundar who represents Royal Challengers Bangalore and is a very important part of the side. Sometimes opening the bowling and even opening the batting, he’s a useful addition to the squad and in particular, helps in bowling a couple of miserly overs in the powerplay.

In IPL 2021 so far however, he was having a bit of a rough time with only 31 runs a best score of 10 with the bat, and only 3 wickets with the ball in 6 games played. As per reports coming in a few hours ago, he has now been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2021 season which is set to be played in the UAE, because of a finger injury.

While it will be a big blow to the side, good teams learn to adapt and RCB immediately went on to sign Bengal medium pacer Akash Deep as Sundar’s replacement for IPL 2021. It’s unlikely that Deep will feature in too many games (or any at all) but it will be a big moment for the player who made his C debut for Bengal in December 2019.

He’s got a good record in the shorter version of the game, ending as the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, representing Bengal and ending with 7 scalps from 5 matches, with an impressive bowling average of 19.28.
