Denesh Ramdin Announces Time on International Career

“It is with great pleasure that I announce my retirement from international cricket. The past 14 years have been a dream come true. I fulfilled my childhood dreams by playing cricket for Trinidad and Tobago and the West Indies. My career afforded me the opportunity to see the world, make friends from different cultures and still be able to appreciate where I came from.”

Here’s what we saw today on the Instagram profile of veteran West Indian cricketer, Denesh Ramdin. The 37-year old made his Test debut for West Indies more than 17 years ago and it’s been a long and illustrious career for the wicket-keeper batsman who hails from Trinidad. “Even though I am announcing my retirement from international cricket, I am not retiring from professional cricket. I will still be playing franchise cricket around the world, so please feel free to contact my agency . info@124notout.com,” he continued in his small statement on Instagram, where he goes by the handle ‘shotta80’ and has 19k+ followers.

“I take this opportunity to thank everyone who made an impact on my 14 year career, particularly my family, my beautiful wife Janelle, and our kids for all the sacrifices you had to make for me to be away for long periods of time during my international career,” he added, thanking those who played a vital role in his long career at the highest level.

Ramdin however, has only retired from international cricket and continues to remain available to play in franchise leagues and teams across the world. A number of his teammates over the years commented on his retirement post, appreciating his achievements over the years. His CPL franchise Trinbago Knight Riders also wished him the best.

Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard also commented, saying, “πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘.. one of the greatest behind the stumps.” Interestingly, Pollard himself called it quits from international cricket recently. Ramdin ends his international career with 74 Tests, 139 ODIs and 71 T20Is under his belt, including 4 Test centuries and 2 ODI centuries with the bat.

Ramdin last played an international match for West Indies in December 2019, so his international career actually ended a few years ago. With the likes of Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran and other wicket-keepers rising to fame over the years, Ramdin lost his spot in the team, having also captained WI across formats until Jason Holder took over in 2015.

On several occasions, Ramdin came in after a collapse of the top order and saved his side an embarrassing score. His best international knock will be his score of 169(124) which came in an ODI against Bangladesh in 2014 which saw Windies securing a victory of 91 runs. He won the Man of the Match in that game and also the Man of the Series in that competition.
