It’s been a few years now that UAE rising talent Chirag Suri first hit the limelight. Still only 25 years old, Suri was picked in the 2020 Emirates Domestic T10 Cup, the first of its kind in the country where 5 regional teams have been scheduled to play along with one special team named by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB). Suri represented the ECB Blues team and on the first day of the league itself (24th July 2020), he made the headlines.

Because of the short and sweet 10-over format of the Emirates D10 tournament, 4 games were scheduled to be played on the first day itself wherein, ECB Blues were a part of both games. After tying their opening game where both teams scored 126, Blues knew they needed more of a score and that’s exactly what Suri gave them in Match 4 of the tournament, against Team Abu Dhabi.

Opening the innings with national side teammate and former UAE captain Rohan Mustafa, the two gave Blues the most ideal start but unfortunately, Mustafa couldn’t kick on, getting dismissed for 34(14). As for Suri, he stood tall and kept smashing the white ball, ending with a match-winning score of 85(27) in an innings which included 3 fours and 10 massive sixes!

With all that hitting, he would’ve surely been tired and he was caught at point in the 9th over, 15 runs short of what would’ve been a magical century! His efforts got the team up to a record Emirates D10 score of 164/5 in only 10 overs. For all those who tuned in to watch the live coverage, you would’ve been treated to some exciting shot-making.

Suri played up to his potential tonight and it’s great to know that today is only Day 1 of the Emirates D10 tournament. If he keeps this up, we can expect another IPL contract coming up soon.
