There are a number of T20 franchise leagues being played all across the world and among the most entertaining and fun ones has to be the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) which began in 2013 and since then, it’s grown each year. We’ve seen a number of players making their way from the CPL into the West Indies national side as well, and that’s one of the prime reasons this league was set up.
And while this 20-over format has always been one that is friendly to the batsmen, many bowlers have excelled in the CPL T20 tournament, year after year. CPL top wicket-takers list
Considering there’s no ICC window given to CPL and the league didn’t attract a lot of international stars in the earlier years, there is only one overseas player in this CPL top wicket-takers list (updated as of 23rd September 2023). Some players to narrowly miss this list include Sohail Tanvir (68 scalps), Romario Shepherd (66 scalps), and Carlos Brathwaite (64 scalps). See the top 10 CPL most wickets list below:

5) Sheldon Cottrell
This left-arm pacer is known for his army salute celebration each time he takes a wicket and boy does he take a lot of CPL wickets. Representing Antigua Hawksbills and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in this tournament, he’s picked up 87 wickets in 76 games with an economy rate of 7.71 and a best bowling performance of 4/20 which remains Sheldon Cottrell’s only 4-fer in his CPL career so far, until the end of CPL 2023.
4) Imran Tahir
The only non-Caribbean bowler in this top 10 CPL most wickets list, Imran Tahir joined the CPL T20 competition only in 2018 but since then, he’s been an integral part of the Guyana Amazon Warriors side. He’s played his entire CPL career for Guyana and the South African leg-spinner has managed 89 wickets in 66 games prior to the CPL 2023 final. He goes at a miserly economy rate of 6.32 in CPL, and his 4/22 is his best and his only 4-fer in this league.

3) Rayad Emrit
One of the rare cases where a pace bowler has managed to continue post the age of 40, Rayad Emrit showed us what is the true meaning of fitness in sport. Having played between 2013-2020, Emrit picked up 96 wickets in 85 games, going at 7.64 runs per over and having a best spell of 4/35 which was also his only 4-fer in CPL history. Over the years, he represented Barbados Tridents and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, while later also leading the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
2) Sunil Narine
One of the best T20 bowlers in the world, it’s not surprise to see Sunil Narine on this CPL most wickets list, having played for Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders in his CPL career. He’s deceived batsmen across the world in T20 cricket and here too, he’s picked up 111 wickets in 105 games, being one of only two players who has picked more than 100 wickets in this tournament. Surprisingly, Narine is the only player on this list to have never picked a 4-fer in CPL, with his best being 3/6.
1) Dwayne Bravo
Considering he’s played among the most number of T20 career matches, it’s no surprise that Dwayne Bravo has also played the most number of games from players on this list. In his CPL career, he’s bagged a whopping 128 wickets in 102 games, having a massive lead at the top of the CPL wicket-takers list. His stats include as many as five 4-fers over the years (five), including a best of 5/23. He’s played for St Kitts and Nevis and the Trinidad & Tobago franchises!
Dwayne Bravo was with Trinbago last year, after winning CPL 2020 then he decided to challenge himself and play with a new franchise in 2021 – he went St Kitts which finished last in 2020 but one year later, DJ Bravo won the CPL title as a St Kitts captain. Legend.
