Full Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Winners List

Stanford 20/20 was the first time an organised T20 format cricket tournament took place in the Caribbean but after its failure, the tournament was renamed to the Caribbean Twenty20; as Allen Stanford was charged with fraud and arrested. From there, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) decided to unveil plans of their new tournament called the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in 2012.

Since then, the first ever CPL T20 tournament took place in 2013 and the rest is history. It took over as the premier T20 tournament in the region and year on year, the event has only grown to become bigger and better. Among all the T20 franchise leagues across the world, we believe that CPL T20 is one of the most entertaining ones, and fans look forward to CPL as we reach towards Aug/Sep each year…

It was Jamaica Tallawahs who won the first edition of the CPL T20 tournament, beating Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL 2013 final. Since then, they won another couple of titles in 2016 and 2022, but Guyana is still struggling to win their first  CPL title, having made the CPL final on a record five separate occasions. You’ll obviously notice that the most successful team in CPL history and the one with the most entries in this CPL winners list is Trinbago Knight Riders with 4 titles in ten completed seasons so far, before the start of CPL 2023. They won three titles with their current franchise name and one before in CPL 2015 when they used to be called Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel.

They also have a perfect record of 100% victory in CPL finals, making the final four times and winning on all four occasions. After them, Jamaica Tallawahs has won the title on three different occasions. The only couple of teams to still not taste success in CPL history are Guyana and St Lucia Kings. Guyana has made the CPL finals a record five times while St Lucia finished runner-up in CPL 2020 and CPL 2021 as well.

Among the individuals in CPL T20, there’s not a single player who won the Man of the Match award on two separate occasions of a CPL final as well. However, you can tell that there’s a heavy Pakistan influence in this tournament as CPL 2014 to CPL 2016 saw three consecutive finals where a Pakistani player won the MOM award, including Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, and Imad Wasim.

Since then, the local players have stood up in the big matches with every final since CPL 2017 onwards having a West Indian player as the Man of the Match. For more updates from the Caribbean Premier League and other cricketing competitions from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com.
