Brendan Taylor Faces ICC Ban in Relation to Fixing

In the last few years, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has been cracking down hard on illegal practices taking place in the game of cricket. The rules are so stringent that not only will players get banned for being a part of such practices but they also face action if they’ve not reported any such advances or conversations with so-called ‘fixers’ of the game.

Very recently, one of the best Zimbabwean batsmen till date, has got into trouble because of his statement which reveals a lot of information about being approached by bookies to fix matches. While we stand up for Brendan Taylor and salute his courage for coming out about this issue, he’s certainly going to face an ICC ban for failing to report the same on time.

Earlier today, 24th Jan 2022, Taylor took to his Twitter account to pen a horror story note about being approached by an Indian businessman to fix matches for him. He attached a 4-page letter to his fans and cricket viewers across the world, with caption, “To my family, friends and supporters. Here is my full statement. Thank you!”

In the note, he mentions about how he’s been carrying this burden around for over 2 years now and how it’s affected his mental health as well. His note said that in October 2019, he was approached by an unnamed Indian businessman who asked him to come to India to discuss sponsorship and an upcoming T20 tournament, while also paying him $15,000 to make the trip. The note further went on to say that he did ‘cocaine’ with 6 men and was threatened the next morning with videos of him doing it.

They threatened to leak the videos if he didn’t fix international matches and he accepted the $15,000 as a deposit for the same. Taylor said that it took him 4 months to report the same to ICC and while he thought they would understand his situation, they didn’t. He also revealed that on Tuesday, 25th Jan 2022, the ICC will be imposing a multi-year ban on his international career.
