Azhar Ali Joins Unwanted Record List

The 2021 Pakistan tour of Bangladesh is currently underway and after the visitors beat Bangladesh 3-0 in the T20I series, it seems to be a better contest in the 1st Test where the home team managed to strike a first innings lead, albeit a small one. However, during the first Pakistan innings, former Test captain and top order batsman Azhar Ali joined a list he won’t be very proud of.

Azhar Ali Joins Unwanted Record List

He was dismissed for a golden duck after a very long opening partnership was broken, and he joined a list of the top three for most ducks in Test cricket for someone batting in the top three. Azhar Ali bats at three and this was his seventeenth duck in this format, batting at that position. He is now tied at second position with Marvan Atapattu, who also had 17 ducks at that position in Test cricket.

Leading the list is England’s Mike Atherton who was an iconic batsman of his era but unfortunately, he is sitting on top of this unwanted records list. Unfortunately for Azhar though, both the other names on this list have retired from international cricket several years ago, and there’s no scope of increasing the gap between them.

He’s want to be very careful as he can now only narrow the gap and if he gets another 4 ducks, he’ll be on top of a records list that he won’t be very proud of. Jokes aside, he’s been a leading batsman for Pakistan in Test cricket over the years and will be looking to get some runs under his belt over the course of this series.
