Asia Cup 2022 Super Fours – SL vs PAK Live Updates

Sri Lanka vs Pakistan – LIVE UPDATES

Man of the Match – Wanindu Hasaranga

22:44 IST: It just took a couple of minutes after the wicket for Wanindu Hasaranga to wrap up the game. He came and hit 2 boundaries in just the 3 balls he faced and given the fact that he picked 3 crucial wickets, he could be considered for the MOM award as well. Nissanka ends on 55(48)* after playing a vital knock. Sri Lanka win today in this last game of the Super Fours stage of Asia Cup 2022, by 5 wickets!

22:40: IST: Shanaka hits his second six of the innings and then gets dismissed on the very next ball. OUT!!! 16.2 overs – Hasnain runs in and bowls an off-cutter, which ends up seeing Shanaka holing out in the deep, after scoring 21(16). SL 113/5.

22:33 IST: Nissanka gets past fifty and as the runs needed keeps reducing, captain Dasun Shanaka is getting into the act, with a four and six so far. SL is 103/4 in 15 overs and they need only 19 runs in the next 30 balls.

22:14 IST: He didn’t need to do this, especially after Nissanka already hit a big shot earlier in the over. Rajapaksa tried to slog the leg-spinner Usman Qadir but only managed a top edge, which was pocketed safely at deep mid-wicket. OUT!!! Qadir was given a game as they want to try their players before the T20 WC squad is announced and he got his first wicket. Rajapaksa gets 24(19) and SL at 80/4.

22:00 IST: Sri Lanka 57/3 after 9 overs. Nissanka playing the anchor’s role at 30(24)* while Bhanuka is playing his shots and getting a move on, currently at 15(13)*. Cruising along right now, in this ‘dress rehearsal’ of the 2022 Asia Cup final, which will be played on 11th Sep.

21:45 IST: Another wicket for Haris Rauf and it’s definitely game on in this dead rubber. OUT!!! Dhananjaya de Silva gets a top edge and goes out for 9(12). Haris Rauf picks up his second wicket as Sri Lanka slip to 29/3 after 5 overs.

21:40 IST: SL was struggling at 7/2 in the first three overs but Pathum Nissanka seems determined to get them back on track. He hit a couple of boundaries and scored 15 runs off the fourth over which was bowled by Hasan Ali. SL 22/2 after 4 overs and Nissanka is batting on 16*, looking good to take them to the finish line.

21:28 IST: Spin was the destructive weapon for Sri Lanka but Pakistan seems to be doing well with pace. Haris Rauf shared the new ball with Mohammad Hasnain and he got Danushka Gunathilaka for a duck as well. OUT!!! Sri Lanka 2/2 in the second over after the batsman chased a wide and short ball which got an edge through to the keeper. Brilliant diving catch by Rizwan!

21:22 IST: Golden duck for Kusal Mendis. OUT!!! Just the second ball of the innings and Mendis nicks a good length delivery to first slip. He goes for 0(1) and they are 1/1 early on in the chase. Danushka Gunathilaka is the next man in.

21:10 IST: Pakistan 121/10 in just 19.1 overs. Great performance from Sri Lanka but you have to say that given their the much better side, it was poor batting from Pakistan. Nawaz towards the end helped them get to this score, before running himself out for 26(18). It should be an easy chase for Sri Lanka. Join back in 15 minutes…

21:00 IST: In the last 10 minutes, we’ve seen a couple of vital boundaries from Mohammad Nawaz. However, on 17.5 overs, when Usman Qadir would’ve done brilliantly by just taking a single, he decided to slog one himself and was dismissed for 3(6). OUT!!! But senseless batting really. 110/8 Pakistan, with 13 balls to go and Nawaz trying to get them to a decent score.

20:51 IST: Last ball of the 16th over and Theekshana gets his first wicket. Hasan Ali skies one and is OUT!!! for just 0(2). Pakistan 95/7 and they’re not going to be able to make a match of this. Point to note here is that the spinners have done brilliantly and Nawaz will be looking to replicate the same.

20:46 IST: First ball duck for Asif Ali. OUT!!! Last ball of the 15th over and last of Hasaranga’s spell. He bowls the wrong one and Asif Ali misses it, only to hear the sound of timber right behind him. Pakistan 91/6 now after 15 overs and they sink deeper. The leg-spinner ends his spell with figures of 3/21 in 4 overs.

20:44 IST: Wanindu Hasaranga was bowling out and he got a wicket after being hit by Iftikhar Ahmed for the first six of the innings and the match. 14.5 overs – Iftikhar misses the slop sweep and gets bowled for 13(17). OUT!!! Pakistan clearly struggling now.

20:38 IST: Dhananjaya de Silva gets a wicket in his final over. OUT!!! 13.3 overs – Bowling to Khushdil Shah, the batsman stepped out and tried to slog, but only managed to hit it to the hands of Pathum Nissanka at long-on. Pakistan 82/4 as Shah goes for 4(8) and Mohammad Nawaz is the new batsman in.

20:27 IST: Third wicket goes and it’s the big fish. 10.4 overs – Wanindu Hasaranga in his third over and he hits timber after Babar Azam was deceived, trying to play for the spin. OUT!!! for a troublesome 30(29). First over after the drinks break and the message may have been to get a move on. Sri Lanka ahead now as Khushdil Shah makes his way to the center.

20:22 IST: Sri Lanka keep tightening the screws. 66/2 after 10 overs. Chamika Karunaratne was introduced to the attack for the first time and he gave away only 4 singles in the over. More importantly, he struck on his second delivery after Fakhar Zaman chased a short and wide ball. OUT!!! Zaman goes for 13(18). Iftikhar Ahmed is the new batsman in now.

20:15 IST: Two really tight overs from the Sri Lankan spinners – DDS and Hasaranga. Pakistan 62/1 after 9 overs but the worrying part for SL is that their opponents have plenty of wickets in hand going into the second half of this innings. Khushdil, Asif Ali, Nawaz, and more to follow.

20:07 IST: 53/1 after 7 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga was introduced into the attack and bowled a tight over for only 4 runs. Fakhar Zaman seems to be struggling against the leg-spin and this bowler’s remaining 3 overs will be super important today.

20:03 IST: 49/1 after 6 overs. Due to the scoring rate, we think Pakistan will be the happier side after the powerplay. Babar Azam has been getting some streaky runs so far but 17* is his highest score of Asia Cup 2022 so far. He’ll want to battle it out and get into form before the important final on Sunday, 11 Sep 2022. Participate in our Twitter poll here:

19:59 IST: 37/1 after 5 overs. Fakhar Zaman is the new man in. The powerplay seems to be shared so far. Big final over of the field restrictions coming up. Madushan bowls that over as well.

19:55 IST: Debutant Pramod Madushan given the ball for the first time. The trend of giving away wides in every over continues in this over too. 3.3 overs – Madushan to Rizwan and he skies one in the air. OUT!!! Caught by wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis. Pakistan 28/1 in the fourth over.

19:48 IST: A much better second over from Madushanka as Pakistan ends 25/0 after 3 overs. However, the host nation Sri Lanka is still looking a bit wayward with the ball so far, with wides being given away in all three overs.

19:43 IST: Maheesh Theekshana opened the bowling in the powerplay and he brought all his variations into the first over itself. He was tight and posed a threat, but it was well negotiated by both Babar and Rizwan, the number #1 and #2 T20I batsmen on the ICC Rankings right now. Pakistan 19/0 after 2 overs.

19:30 IST: National anthems done, and Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are set to begin the Pakistani innings. Left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka will begin the proceedings with the ball. It’s set to be some fun here tonight…
