Lockdown Workout Challenge – Day 9

It was around 4 days ago that I last posted an update on the calisthenics workout challenge. Day 8 of the workout was a breeze but I didn’t really anticipate how tough it was going to get. The next time I disappear for a few days, know that it’s not because I’ve given up but because I’ve failed and I’m trying again. That’s what happened when I tried Day 9 – I just stumbled and had to quit in the middle of Round 2!

Lockdown Workout Challenge - Day 9

I’m not one who has worked on my legs too often in the past and 3 sets of 25 deep squats each killed me. No exaggeration, it literally killed me. It had my thighs and knees shivering and I knew I needed a 24-hour break, if not 48 hours. So I returned to my 21-Day Challenge today and I did Day 9 over again, this time determined to complete it. Take a break in between a set but the goal was to complete it without fail.

Just to be clear – all days of this challenge have been tough and I did a slight sneak peek into a few days ahead to realize it only gets 100x worse from here. So, there’s no point being stuck on Day 9 for a week. Grit your teeth and get it done, I told myself, and it seems to have worked, but I’m not sure how I’m going to increase my sets of 25 deep squats to 30 for Day 10! Day 9 workout:

  • Lumbar crunches – 15x.
  • Deep squats – 25x.
  • Knuckle push-ups – 22x.
  • Calf raises – 30x each leg.
  • Mountain climbers – 60 seconds.

A few days back, mountain climbers were 30-seconds each and while my friends hated that ab workout, I went on for a few extra seconds each set. However, I couldn’t do that today. The squats drained me, and then to work on calves right after it was kind of tough. Not to mention push ups on my knuckles in between all of this chaos!

Regardless, the app promises a power packed session in just 40-45 minutes daily and that’s what I got. Some sore muscles and a floor full of sweat when I was done with today’s workout session. The overall session went on for 39:42 minutes and there’s a high possibility that I may not be able to complete the forthcoming days in a single try. However, try and try until you succeed, right?

If you want to get into a similar routine, remember that a 10-12 minute warm-up is key before every exercise session. Or else, you’re just not going to be able to get through. And if you do, your body and muscles may not be fixed by the time you’re ready for the next day’s session.
